Virtual reality
GlouOS is VR-ready the moment it boots. Plug in a supported headset and play, with no driver or runtime setup to chase.
Ready on boot
The VR runtime and the graphics pieces VR depends on are set up out of the box. There is no separate driver install or manual configuration step: connect a supported headset and GlouOS is ready for SteamVR and OpenXR titles straight away.
The right GPU drives your headset
VR is sensitive to which GPU actually renders to the headset. GlouOS handles graphics driver enumeration so the correct GPU is selected, which matters most on multi-GPU desktops and hybrid laptops. See Graphics drivers for how the stack is chosen.
Drivers and reprojection
On AMD, GlouOS uses Mesa RADV by default and keeps AMDVLK available as an alternative, which some headsets have historically preferred for reprojection. NVIDIA and Intel headsets use their respective driver stacks, all set up automatically at install.
Why smoothness matters even more in VR
Dropped frames and uneven pacing are far more noticeable, and more uncomfortable, in a headset than on a monitor. The same work that makes flat games smooth, the latency-aware scheduler, the tuned kernel and steady frame pacing, pays off doubly in VR.
Getting started
Install Steam (you can tick it in the installer) for SteamVR, connect your headset, and launch a VR title. That is all it takes.
